I made a cake with my niece. It was a fabulously messy experience and she decorated it all by herself with just a little enforced restraint to prevent her emptying the entire pot of rainbow sprinkles onto the centre of the cake. The blobs are chocolate covered cranberries and you can be sure that each one was placed with precision and consideration and care on Uncle Jases birthday cake. We took it to the restaurant and she sat by it, checking under the cover quite often to make sure it was still ok. Then we stuck the appropriate number of candles on it (5, because that's all I could find), sung 'happy birthday to youuuu' more than once, blew out the candles more than once and then scoffed the whole thing. Between 14 people it didn't last long!
So, that's what I think about diets and me. As long as I can make a cake on a special occasion, have a hilarious amount of fun doing it, eat it and not think about it later, then I'm ok. Better than ok.
I actually wrote down my sort of 'philosophy' of food and body and fitness a few weeks ago. A sort of summary of what I think is important and it has nothing to do with getting chinky abs (although, if that's really the thing you want, then just go right ahead). I think it boils down to doing what's right for you, whatever that may be and no matter what anyone else thinks. So, here it is. My little nutshell of what I currently believe is important as regards food and fitness.
Sara's list
What do I believe in?
1.Health, physical and mental, at any size
2.Our right to be any size we want to be, big or small, as long as this does not interfere with 1.
3.Our right to eat whatever and however we want, to log or not log it, count or not count, whatever – as long as this does not interfere with 1.
4.Our right to love the body you have and to have fun with it and participate fully in life, no matter what size our bodies happen to be this week.
5.Our right to live free of size judgement, whether that be as the judged or the judgee.
I love your 'beliefs' mate... and I totally endorse them. That cake looks devine!
