Kopi Luwak - The Verdict

Firstly, thanks so much for all the concerned emails and messages! Honestly, I'm perfectly ok, so no need to fret. I don't know for sure that my 'episode' was related to the off-plan food, but it just seemed a bit too coincidental to be completely unrelated. I like to overthink these things. It keeps me in the mild state of paranoia to which I am accustomed. ;)

Yesterday my mum turned up with a container of those Kopi Luwak coffee beans, which everyone seems to insist on referring to as 'possum poo beans'. Despite my prejudiced expectations, they look really good. It's hard to see in the photo's but they really shine, like gold. They are priced slightly closer to the price of gold than the price of regular coffee beans also, therefore this is my allotment from the several kg's that Brucie bought back from Timor.

Ah.. gotta love blogger. For some reason I have uploaded a pic of carrots and cannot either move or delete it. Therefore, I interrupt the scheduled post to give you, CARROTS. From my Grandads garden.
And.. back to the coffee. It goes through the Saeco Royal Professional machine.
And into an espresso cup. I do not ever add milk, sugar or ANYTHING ELSE to coffee and I don't think anyone else should either. Except on rare occasions at Starbucks, when the selection demands experimentation.
You can see that there is a really good crema on it, which is a sign of great beans and, I have to admit that when it comes to bean selection, those Ewoks, or whatever they are, know their stuff. Once I mentally blocked out the harsh facts about the beans 'passage' from tree to machine (then again, is it any worse than the reality of where eggs come from?), I concluded that this is really awesome coffee. There is virtually nil bitterness, which is a very desirable quality in coffee and it could definitely be described as 'smooth'. Having now exhausted my supply of adjectives that I can adequately use when talking about coffee, I think I'll just finish up with a piccy of the beasty with a super nose, odd digestive system and inbuilt coffee selection gene. Isn't nature amazing??
