Living with an alien (metabolic type)

One of the more frequent problems that people, mainly women, who email me have is that they feel it is a real hassle to eat differently to the lurve of their life on a day to day basis. Most also have a problem when eating at someone elses house too, but that's a different matter.

I have been more or less happily co-existing with a carb-consuming running machine for many years and I'm here to tell you that it's just not difficult. Or, more correctly, it is as difficult as you want it to be. Mostly he eats a jazzed up version of what I eat, unless I've had a bit of time on my hands to make him something I never touch - like lasagne.

The pic above is last nights meal, which for me was a grilled lamb salad with veges and roast kumara. His was the same thing stuffed inside a couple of pita bread with hummus, tomato salsa, grated cheese and mayo. He ate three of them, with a beer.

Of course, there are (rare) times when we both eat pizza, and if I'd felt like a pita bread I would have had one, but mostly it's just agreeing to be different. When it comes to the human body 'normal' is a range. I'm normal for me, he's normal for him, and that means we have different energy and nutrient requirements. That's just the way it is.

  1. Totally agree Sara. It's not that hard.

The eating at other people's houses is more of a problem though and one I can't seem to crack/be strong enough about (i.e resist the second helping of dinner and or dessert or that 5th glass of wine!) Any ideas?

  2. I agree too. Right now, I eat like my Husband, this is not good!

  3. Christa, I'm working on a post already about eating when you are a guest. One thing I've found is that resisting the WINE is the first step. After two glasses of wine, resistance to anything else is futile ;))
