For my mid-afternoon, brain-feeding snack I tried a fruity, nutty mix with maca powder sprinkled over it, an idea I swiped from Gina. I'm experimenting with maca, as I'm about to add it to the Sana range (as soon as I have a few moments to get it on the site) but I'm not sure about it sprinkled on fruit, tastewise. I ended up mashing it into the banana, which was moderately ... uh... ok. It's probably like the raw cacao beans - hate it at first, then can't get enough of it. Acquired addiction.

Hi Sara
ReplyDeleteI have been reading a bit about maca on the interweb and there are a few sites (albiet people's own experiences) about the side effects of maca including breakouts and mood swings. Have you come across any scientific information about its health benefits and possible side effects?
Thanks
Chris
If you go crazy with maca then you could have issues, much like with any supplement. You have to build up to the full dosage and then it's good to take breaks from it, again, as with most medicinal herbs/roots. I'm doing some more research into it which is why it's taken me so long to get it on the site.
ReplyDeleteMaca powder is actually a great additive to any smoothie or virtually any food. It has a great taste, but overdoing it will hurt you in the long run. Just keep an eye out on how much you consume each day. Take care and please stop by my health blog sometime. The web address is http://healthy-nutrition-facts.blogspot.com/.
ReplyDeleteJust a note: I will delete comments that are thinly veiled product advertisements. Mentioning your blog is ok, as in the comment above, but I've had to remove a few that were just blatant attempts to advertise their brand of maca. Comment spam is a P.I.A.
