I'm not too happy with the photography tonight because everything has this gak yellow colour to it and I'm not sure why. My camera knowledge is a W.I.P, so it's probably some setting I accidentally twiddled while trying to be clever making my Photovoice assignment.
Tonights dinner was a his/hers affair. I don't eat tomatoes - 'tom-ah-toes' that is, because they make my joints ache (I'm a sensitive petal in that department) but our tomato bush is going..er.. bananas, so I did a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and made a pasta sauce for The Programmer.
Buying cheese in a round, wrapped in greaseproof paper, from a small market shop just makes me feel so earth-goddess like that I want to start using henna again and hang up some prisms and windchimes. Maybe I will.
I rounded out all that hand-made-ness with a fresh batch of mayo, made in the processor. Not exactly as your grandma in France would have done it, but still lovely and thick and no crappy additives to give it a shelf-life of 5 years. Mine would last four days, except we all know that nothing lasts that long in my house.
I seem to be over my runny mayo phase. I believe that the trick is to have all the ingredients at the same temperature. That is, don't use eggs straight from the fridge. The other important thing is to not give up too soon. Making stuff from scratch requires more than the modern day concentration span of 1.02 minutes. I am looking for some more good, creamy dressing recipes, so feel free to send them my way and I'll give them a go under the controlled conditions of the test kitchen. Quality control and testing is a major part of it; the biggest part, actually. :D
Still no aftershocks... this should be soothing, but it's. just. not. I feel we are being lulled into a false sense of security. It's going to take a while to build up the trust again, Mother Nature...
laughing at your tomatoes pronunciation. I feel like I say everything wrong here! also, I had my first feijole today!
ReplyDeleteI love the sparkly cheese pic! I almost expected to hear a "dinnnnggg!" when I saw it. Haha!
ReplyDeleteCheck the white balance on the camera? Or read the manual. Or maybe ask your resident photographer. ;)
